Therapy For Stress

Stress can be so hard to identify as well as so difficult to manage and cope with. Many individuals don’t even realise how stressed they are until things have built up severely. Often people try to keep going and to keep managing things. Of course, this results in the stress building even more and eventually things becoming totally overwhelming.

How we can help you cope with stress

In an ideal world individuals would know when they need to slow down, and press pause for a moment. They would be able to take some time to process and identify exactly what is currently happening. And they would be able to put some strategies and tools in place to help them to manage their stress levels.

However, this isn’t always easy and often, stress can creep up on people to a high level before they realise it. That is where therapy comes in. It can help people to process and deal with where they are currently at – but it can also help them to learn how to manage and deal with stress going forward.  Here at Your Counselling Service our experienced team of therapists help people to learn the signs of stress and assist them to develop an improved way of managing stress.

Stress can hit in all areas of life.Sometimes areas such as work, relationships, finance, and health can cause people to feel under a lot of pressure. Traumatic events and situations can also trigger and increase stress levels. Academic pressure can cause people to feel stressed. Friendship dynamics can lead to stress. Changes can trigger stress. The list is endless. And every individual is so different – that certain situations will feel stressful for some people, and not for others. Our role as therapists is therefore to take the time to understand how an individual feels, copes and manages with stress.

We work hard to help individuals recognise the signs of stress, and to understand their own triggers. In turn our therapy sessions provide a supportive outlet for individuals to work through and process the things that are causing them stress. We then work closely with individuals to help them to put effective coping strategies in place in order to cope better and to feel calmer and overall, less stressed.

Hear Lucy’s story

In this video Lucy very kindly volunteered to share her recovery experience with Your Counselling Service. It gives insights into how she was treated from the moment she enquired to the moment she recovered, and is a great example of how we like to treat and work with all our clients.

Our approach to helping those with stress

  • Starting the recovery process is the biggest step forward
  • Learn to respect and value yourself
  • Everything in moderation
  • Trust the process of recovery
  • Self-soothing and respect is key
  • Mood diaries can be very helpful
  • Everyone is individual with their own recovery plan
  • Emotional and physical health is so important
  • Change can happen and it can be positive
  • Fear can be overcome
  • Support network is important (and our service becomes a major part of this)
  • Feeling less alone and isolated aids recovery
  • Self-worth and esteem can develop through therapy
  • You are never alone
  • Recovery takes time, strength, and determination
  • We are here to help whenever you feel you can’t do it

Lets take your first step, together.

Making the decision to start therapy is both daunting and frightening. People often feel nervous and don’t know what to expect. To give you an idea, we would book an assessment as an initial chance for us to meet and talk. This would last an hour, and it is an opportunity to ask questions and to get to know you more. You can also ask about anything that you are unsure about. If you feel comfortable and are happy to go ahead, then we would book you in for weekly therapy. Each week would be different depending on where you are at, and what you are coming for. We can discuss all of your needs in the assessment and put a treatment plan in place. We have a great team and we are here to help.
